Why run out and stump out rules changed in WPL 2025.

Recently a big confusion was assigned in WPL 2025. Run out and stump out what we have seen in WPL is making a huge scene. Recently in Mumbai Indians vs Delhi Capitals match, the run out and stump outs made a huge confusion among cricket viewers. 3 run outs turned into not out.

In MI vs DC the decision was actually out. But why did the third umpire give it as not out? Many questions have been raised regarding the decision of the third umpire towards run out and stump out

In the match between RCB vs DC, the same confusion arose in stump out the decision. Jemimah Rodrigues got stumped out. The third umpire observed was very accurate. Bails dialogue, bails dislodge, the third umpire was keep telling about bails.

What is this bail dislodge? Till date, there were no words about bails dislodge when it comes to stump out and run out. The player is out as soon as lights light up on the stumps. Many are confused here about what’s actually happening about the decision. S, the decision along with the rule has been changed in this WPL.

What did the ICC rules say about stump out and run out?

ICC rules are the same as before. But the rules following are different from the past. This time it looks like they are following a different pattern. The confusion is creating why LED lights are inbuilt in stumps.

According to the ICC rules, the out is given when a player dislodges bails completely or at least one of the stumps has to be out completely from the socket. If the stump is not out from the socket or no bails dislodge, then the player remains not out.

If the bail is in contact and did not dislodge, and the player enters into the crease then it is not out. Whatever if the lights are light up, the decision is based on bails and stumps. Then why the lights in the stumps? Even the ICC rules say the same thing.

Coming to the scenario, if a player is out for bold. The bail on the stumps dislodges and goes into the air. Again the dislodged bail sits on the exact stump slot without falling on the ground. Then the decision goes not out. To give a decision out, all bails has to be on the ground or at least one stump should be out of socket.

This rule is so confusing. What are these rules? Why LED lights on the stumps? LED lights are kept to know the point of contact. But here it’s like no use of LED lights at all. Requirement of LED lights makes no sense. We thought that the player was out once the stumps are light up. This rule was followed till now. But why a new rule from WPL? In all the ICC tournaments, the decision was made according to the stumps lights.

From the WPL, different patterns arise in stump out and run out decisions. WPL people say that LED lights on stumps are equally important. But How? To know the initial point of contact whenever there is a stump out or run out. To know where exactly the ball is hitting and what point the bails are dislodging, LED lights play an important role. When the lights glow that’s an initial point of contact.

According to the rules, the initial point of contact cannot be taken for a decision. But it’s only taken to know the point of contact. Only bail dislodgement is taken for decision. This is what the third umpire followed in RCB vs DC and MI vs DC matches.

We all thought that, if it lights up then the player is out. In MI vs DC match the third umpire was asking for the next frame. There is a meaning in looking at the previous frame, instead of the next frame. A big confusion arised among all the viewers.

Even ICC rules say the same rule but nobody follows it. When the lights are up, the decision is made according to that. But now in WPL, the player remains not out till the bail dislodge or any of the stump is out of the socket.

This is not a new rule, it’s an old rule. LED lights which came recently created a lot of confusion. These days decisions were given based on lights. Here onwards the rules will be strictly followed according to the reports. No requirement of LED lights at all other than knowing the point of contact. When lights are lit up, due to glow, it’s become difficult to see the bail dislodging.

This is so confusing. In ICC tournaments, the decisions are given based on lights without following rules. We do not know why only on women’s cricket. We all wait to see what rule they are going to follow in the Champions trophy and IPL. Are they going to decide based on lights up or they are going to wait till the dislodgement of bails.

It’s very easy and better to give decisions based on lights up. When lights up or ball touches, obviously the bail dislodges. If not, there is no point in keeping lights on the stumps. Or it’s better to remove lights because of the glow it’s difficult to locate bails.
