Update number 1: Can CSK qualify for the playoffs?
We all know that the performance by CSK in IPL 2025 is very poor. CSK has already lost 7 matches out of 9 matches and stood at last position in the points table. After losing against SRH, many have confirmed that CSK is out of the tournament but there are some possibilities that CSK can still qualify for the playoffs.
We still believe that CSK and RR is a gone case for the playoffs. They could not reach out to the playoffs.
Are there any mathematical possibilities for the CSK to qualify for the playoffs?
S, still CSK can qualify for the playoffs. If the chances created or if some miracles happened CSK can still take a place in playoffs. Nobody believed that RCB could qualify for the playoffs in 2024, but RCB won all the matches and qualified for the playoffs. If the same miracles happen to the CSK, there are possibilities that CSK can qualify to the playoffs. But the CSK team has to give confidence in such possibilities.
How can CSK qualify for the playoffs? What is the criteria to qualify?
1) CSK has left with 5 matches. CSK has to win all the 5 matches. The total wins will be 7 and the team will have a total of 14 points.
2) The run rate should be maintained positive. Currently CSK has the worst run rate of about -1.302. It will be positive if CSK wins all the remaining matches
3) Dependency on other teams. GT, RCB, and DC have to win all the matches. Except the matches against CSK all the other matches have to win.
MI and PBKS have to lose the majority of the matches.
4) No 4 position must have 14 points or 7 matches winning scenario. 4th team qualifying scenario should not cross 14 points.
Can CSK qualify through a 14 point scenario?
Currently, the scene looks different. 4th position appears to be 16 points or 8 win scenarios. If the 8 win scenario takes place rather than 7 wins, CSK will remain out of the tournament. The competition is more and it will be based on the net run rate. It doesn’t appear that CSK will qualify thorough 14 point scenario. There is only less than 1% that CSK will qualify through a 14 point scenario.
The scene for the CSK is different. CSK has left with 5 matches. CSK has to deal with
1) Punjab Kings on 30th April
2) Royal Challengers Bangalore on May 3rd
3) Kolkata knight riders on May 7th
4) Rajastan Royals on May 12
5) Gujarat Titans on May 18
All the matches of CSK are away matches. There is only one home ground match i.e against Punjab Kings. All other four matches are home away matches.
CSK has lost most of the matches in home ground. Then how can CSK win against home away matches? We cannot define answers for this. When we look at RCB, RCB has won all the home away matches, the same strategy might happen for CSK, only then CSK will be on the safer side.
CSK vs RCB on May 3rd in Bangalore is so intense and important for both the teams. RCB which is looking so strong, it’s highly difficult for the current CSK team to win against RCB.
First CSK has to win over Punjab Kings, then they have to win over RCB which is highly difficult. If CSK loses against Punjab Kings, there is no point in winning other matches over other teams.
If CSK loses the next match, it will be a gone case. Already CSK is almost gone. If they lose again, CSK will be officially ruled out from IPL 2025. They do not enter the playoffs at all. The chances will be 0% to qualify for the playoffs.
Will CSK show consistency in the upcoming matches?
Since there is a lot of competition for the fourth position. Showing consistency in the upcoming matches by the CSK is imaginary. Qualifying to the playoffs is also an imaginary. But practically, mathematically, still there are possibilities that CSK can qualify. We cannot say CSK and Rajasthan Royals has been officially ruled out.
If CSK and RR loses the next coming match, then it is officially ruled out from the tournament. The expectations are majority of the matches has to be win by the table toppers and majority of the matches has to be lose by the middle teams in the points table.
Finally, CSK doesn’t seems that they have confidence and hopes in getting into the playoffs. Mathematically it might be possible but the chances are very least. There is no doubt that CSK will remain out of the IPL 2025.

Update number 3 : MS Dhoni accepted their loss against SRH
” I think we kept losing wickets and another thing is in the first innings. The wicket was slightly better and 157 wasn’t a justifiable score”
CSK after losing against SRH. MS Dhoni accepted their defeat against SRH. There is nothing to blame the team perticularly about batting or bowling line ups. It the teams fault which could not give better performance.
157 is not a scure at all to defend at Chepauk. The batters were losing wickets including MS Dhoni’s wicket. They could not build a partnership rather they were losing wickets periodically. Dhoni says that pitch was good enough but the team did not play well at all. Dhoni accepted their defeat against SRH.
