Why did England lose against India? IND vs END 2nd ODI post match analysis

Welcome to the post match analysis of India versus England 2nd ODI. In the 1st ODI India successfully chased down 248 runs and won the match by 5 wickets. The same thing happened in the 2nd ODI too. India has successfully chased down the target given by England and led the series 2-0. Why did England lost against India.?

What’s special about the 2nd ODI. It was the same as the 1st ODI. England lost and India got a convincing lead in the series. India easily chased down in the first and second match. India was capable of chasing down if the target is beyond 350.

According to the previous stats of the ground, the teams which took bowling first had majority winnings. England won the toss but they have chosen batting instead of bowling. It’s more like England did not get a chance to bat at all. Even in previous matches they opted for batting and in 2nd ODI too. But why batting again?. The same results displayed as the previous match.

Compared to the 1st ODI England has scored better in the 2nd ODI. They have scored a total of 304 runs with the loss of 10 wickets. But the target was not enough for India. India is capable of chasing 350+. So England should target 350+ runs. Then it will become difficult for India to chase down. But, whatever a good partnership has come up from England batters. The collapse of what happened in the 1st ODI did not happen in the 2nd ODI. In 1st ODI 3-4 wickets fell continuously, no partnerships have come up. 2nd ODI was unlikely to 1st ODI.

The opening of England was by Phil Salt and Ben Duckett. These two players gave a blast in powerplay. Partnership of 81 runs has come up from these players. Phil Salt who scored 26 got dismissed by Varun Chakravarthy. The first break through. Varun Chakravarthy recently joined the Champions trophy squad. It’s a great thing to keep him back up and he spelled well in this match and gave first breakthrough.

Ben Ducket on the other hand has scored a massive 65 runs with a strike rate of 116. After Phil salt’s dismissal, Ben Duckett got out by giving a catch in long order. Many times Ben Duckett got out in the same region with the same pattern. We can say this might be his weakness. He tried for a big shot but caught out in the long order region. Whatever his contribution to England was crucial.

After Ben Duckett got dismissed, Joe Root who came to the ground settled for a long time. He scored 69 runs from 72 balls. A crucial run to reach a 300+ score. Joe Root went for hitting inside out, there were two options, if it clicks it’s a six or out. But it was unfortunate, Joe Root got dismissed. If he had played on the ground, he would have scored a century. But he tried a big shot, but got dismissed.

Another small contribution has come from Joss Buttler, Harry Brook, Liam Livingstone. No other players have given their contribution to the mark. Harry Brook got dismissed for Harshit Rana. And what catch from Shubhman Gill. In the 1st ODI Yashasvi Jaiswal ran behind and took a catch, in 2nd ODI the same thing happened but this time it was Shubhman Gill.

Coming to the bowling of India. India has done agreat job in bowling and fielding too. Nowadays people started trolling Ravindra Jadeja that he has become aged. He could not bring much wickets. But, Jadeja proved what he is, in this series against England. He hawled a total of 3 wickets with an economic spell with an economy of 3.50. Now he is the leading wicket taker of the series.

Apart from Jadeja, other Indian bowlers also contributed with their economic spell. Mohammed Shami, Harshit Rana, and Hardik Pandya took each wicket.

The target for India is 305. We all know that, this is not a enough score for India. India chased this score by 5 wickets and led series by 2-0. Here is the scorecard.

The opening was done by Rohit Sharma and Shubhman Gill. It was an excellent partnership between these two. A total of 136 runs has come up from their bats. It was right hand- right hand combination. Though they built a good partnership. When a high partnership came initially, India’s winning prediction also increased.

Rohit who was not in form in recent forms, showed his aggressiveness in this match. He scored a 32nd century. He came back to his form. He scored a total of 119 runs with the strike rate of 132. It is more of like a T20. His score includes 7 sixes and 12 fours.

Shubhman Gill was also playing very good. But, got dismissed to Overton. The pitch of the ball was directly to the yorker, which is difficult for all the batsmen to defend. He scored a total of 60 runs in 52 balls

Higher expectations were kept on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. But Virat Kohli did not meet the expections. He got dismissed from Adil Rashid. It was an ultra edge catch which was revealed in DRS.

Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel maintained a good partnership. But unfortunately Shreyas Iyer got run out. Axar Patel is coming very early since fews to work out right hand and left hand combination. We usually expect Axar Patel at 7th or 8th position. But here he came very early and gave his performance accordingly to the spot he came.

When we talk about England’s bowling, most of the bowlers became expensive. J Overton gave first break through by dismissing Shubhman Gill. G Atkinson ,A Rashid, L Livingstone took each wicket.

India won by 5 wickets. 3rd ODI will be played on 12 February. This time we hope England will do a strong comeback though it is a dead driver match because the series is already sealed down by India.
